SIGHTING IN ONTARIO

The sighting took place on June 18, 1999.  It was around 11:00
a.m. on a very nice day.  My brother-in-law and I were canoeing
down asmall creek/river on our way to Lake Kishkutena ( Kish for
short).  We came around a bend in the river and saw this creature
standing in the river about two or three feet from shore.  I know
that I originally said it was 50-75 yards away, but my brother -in-
law thinks it was more like 30-50 yards away.   We probably
watched it for 30 seconds or so before it knew we were there.  I
think it actually smelled us by it's reaction.  It's back was to us
then it suddenly turned as if it knew we were there.  When I first
saw it, I thought it was just someone fishing in the river as it was
standing upright.  It looked like it was just staring down into the
water as if it was trying to locate a fish.  Let me give you more of
an accurate description.  I would say it was around 7 feet tall,
covered in reddish brown hair and it looked like it didn't have a
neck.  When it turned to look at us, it turned it's whole body.  The
one thing that shocked me was the length of it's arms.  They hung
down below its knees.  This thing was very muscular especially in
the upper body.  I didn't get a clear view of the face, however,  it
was mostly covered by hair.  Its head was\somewhat pointed like
a cone.  This thing made loud screaming sounds like it was
yelling at us.  Then it took off into the brush.  One thing that I
remember was a distinct smell.  Similar to what a black bear
smells like (stinky).  There are a lot of bears in the area so I may
have smelled a bear that was near by.  We looked for footprints
and found a couple.  We measured them approximately 18 inches
or so.  They may have been smaller because they were made in
very wet soil.  Needless to say we were shaken and went on our
way.  I will say that whole week we were in that area I felt as if
something was watching us.  I have been fishing in this same
area and have made this trip several times in the last 20 years,
and I have never seen or
heard of anything like this.
