INDIAN BRANCH AND BUFFALO CREEK

When I was a young boy, my grandmother on my dad's side lived
with

us.  My dad was working the 3 to 11 shift and had just been home
for

a short time.  My grandmother said he'd awakened her as he came
in

from work.  When he got up the next morning, she ask him if he
had

heard anything just before he went to bed.  He said no.

She explained that she had heard something screaming and
obviously

on the run on the hill behind our house.  She was in her 80's and

having grown up in the real country, had heard and seen about all

there was to see in hill country.  She said that this was like nothing

she'd ever heard before in her life.  Dad just passed it off as a deer
or

grandmother going back to sleep and dreaming.

That same day a neighbor from up the road came and ask us if
we'd

heard the sound the night before.  It woke up his teenage daughter,

who in terror could not go back to sleep and sat with the light on in

her room the rest of the night.  This took place in West Virginia in

what is known as Indian Branch and Buffalo Creek. This was a
prime

hunting area for the Native Americans.  A farm near here has

produced a lot of Native American artifacts to prove this fact.

NOW..A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO..IN THE SAME AREA..

In the Spring of 1998 my mom and dad were coming back from

church. It was about 9:00 p.m.  Their house sits next to a lake in
what

we would call a hollow.  They were driving up the driveway, which
is

located on the right side of the dam to the lake.  The headlights
shone

up into a stand of large White Pines along the hill  in back of the

house.

Because of the denseness of the woods, lights did not always
penetrate

far.  They saw a pair of glowing red eyes looking back at them from

behind a large Pine Tree.  They did not give any indication of how
high

up on the tree it was and couldn't really tell because of the angle of
the

lights.  The angle of the headlights also deterred them from seeing

much more than the red glowing eyes, and the relative shape
which

they said was big.  They sat there for some time watching this thing

look back at them from around the tree.  They could not tell how it

was positioned on two or four legs.  They said it would go from
side to

side as if it were trying to figure them out.  Then they seen what
they

described was a large black creature walk away and up the hill into

the woods.

Mom and dad have a Cur and a Black Lab.  As recently as last fall,

mom  was awakened by the sound of the Cur whining on the
porch.

She tried to get my dad to check it out but could not get him up.
She

got up and checked out all the windows.  She saw the Cur backed
into

a corner shaking violently.  She could not see anything in the open

areas around the house.  Knowing this dog and his temperament,
this

behavior was very unlike him.  Normally, he will bark or growl at

anything out of the ordinary.  Mom said nothing of the Lab or his

whereabouts.
