| CAMPING TRIP ON BUFFALO CREEK In May of 1998 I took my neighbor's grandson on an all night fishing/ camping trip. We set up camp on the dam. We fished until dark and around 10:00 p.m. we decided to turn in for the night. We both had trouble getting to sleep due to the frogs serenading us. It was their mating season. We finally got to sleep and evidently were sleeping good. Sometime in the early morning hours, when it seems to be the darkest I awoke instantly and was wide awake. The first thing I realized was that the frogs had stopped singing. I thought they had finally quit for the night and the silence was what woke me up. Then, right outside the tent I heard a low guttural sound that I first thought was my dad's Black Lab. Then I realized that the dog would not be that far from the house at night. The hair on the back of my neck began to rise as I realized we were not alone. I was lying on my stomach and was to afraid to even roll over so I could look out and see what was there. At times the guttural sounds turned to an occasional woofing sound like something was blowing. This went on for about 15 minutes. Then I heard splashing at the edge of the pond. The sounds stopped immediately and the frogs began to sing a few minutes later. During the whole time the boy never woke up. I ask him the next morning if he heard anything and he said he didn't. Later, when I thought about it and was wondering what it could have been, I realized we had put all our food inside our tent. Wrong move no matter what. This time of year the temperature is usually in the 70's during the day and down in the 40's or 50's at night. At the time I had not given it any thought of this being a sasquatch, even though there had been sightings close by. Now I wonder if that is what is was.. Dan P. |
